1) The Briefing:
If you are travelling as a family, it is advisable that more than one adult is present for the briefing regarding rules and safety.
2) Intense Sunshine:
The sun although we love it if ignored can make any holiday turn sour. Collapsible cooler bags are a great idea as a cooler box will become cumbersome on a trip. The beaches on the Whitsunday's offer very little shade so not only will your drinks get hot so will you. Be sure to have plenty of sun cream and cover up where possible, especially the kids.
Even though snorkelling on the shoreline is very clear and not deep, be sure not to go out alone, always snorkel in pairs. Sunset on the islands is around 6 to 7 pm make sure you are within sight of the boat by that time.
4) Sunset Exploring:
Remember even though the sunset is a beautiful sight it does exactly as it is named – it 'sets' and fast, if you are watching it from the top of the island, it will be pitch black by the time you get back to the bareboat, take a torch and leave lights on onboard before you head off.
5) Whitehaven Beach:
Whitehaven beach is famous in Australia for its views from the Hill Inlet. It's best to experience this on the outgoing tide. For those of you who are into photography, it is worth taking your best piece of kit for this experience as it is the highlight of any bareboat charter. But be warned the sand is so pristine and super fine it can play havoc with any electrical equipment, from cameras to phones and music appliances so be sure to cover them up. The walks are relatively easy going, but comfortable footwear is still advisable.
Follow these simple steps and enjoy the bareboating holiday of a lifetime.
